M. Cabrera & Associates, PC is a law firm which practices extensively in the areas of consumer law. The firm’s consumer practice is headed by Matthew M. Cabrera, Esq.

 

Matthew formed M. Cabrera & Associates, PC in 2008 after managing a real estate investment company for three years.  Matthew has nearly 20 years of experience in the collection industry.  He has worked for collection agencies and law firms collecting various types of debts including credit cards, checks and personal loans.  From 1999 until 2005 Matthew hired, trained and supervised a staff of almost 50 collection employees.  This prior experience has afforded Matthew the understanding, knowledge and experience necessary to speak and negotiate with representatives at all levels of the collection industry concerning his client’s debts.

 During this time he was involved in nearly 25 lawsuits for state and federal debt collection violations.  Having to  defend and negotiate on behalf of himself and his companies, he has a definitive understanding of what  constitutes a violation of the state and federal collection laws and what truly amounts to a case that should be  settled versus a case that should be tried.  His detailed knowledge of creditor defenses and the understanding and  thought processes behind those defenses affords him powerful leverage in settlement negotiations on behalf of his  clients.  

 

 Matthew is admitted to practice in New Jersey. He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He  regularly handles in New Jersey on a pro bono basis, consumer assignments for North Jersey Legal Services.  Matthew is in discussion with multiple non-profit and not-for-profit entities to establish bi-monthly seminars,  focusing on debt issues, to educate consumers on their rights under the law.

 

 Prior to attending law school, he spent six years working for financial and business institutions from Wall Street to  Miami.
